As a Motion Designer and Technical Artist at Nexon, I created 2D sprite-based animation cycles and optimized the process for higher performance, faster loading times, and smoother animation.
Using expertise in 2D animation and knowledge of the DragonBones animation software, I created high-quality animations that were also efficient and easy to load. Various techniques were employed to optimize the animations, including:
Using a sprite sheet to store all of the frames for an animation, which reduces the amount of data that needs to be loaded.
Using a frame rate that is appropriate for the game, which helps to improve performance.
Optimizing the animations for different devices, such as mobile phones and tablets
Additionally, my knowledge of Adobe Animate was leveraged to create hand-drawn visual effects that were integrated into the animation. These effects enhanced the depth and detail of the animations, making them more visually appealing.
The results of my technical contribution to the project were significant.
With the updated approach of using spline based animation, these animation cycles were able to load faster and run more smoothly, which improved the overall performance of the game.
The hand-drawn visual effects added to the polish and feedback that were lacking and added a level of detail that was not possible with traditional sprite-based animation.
